What hard drive do you have? Is it the 5400 RPM drive? If it is Apeture, movie downloads, and iTunes (doing something) could be hitting the drive harder than it can react - thus slowing everything down.

Also - try installing the 10.7.1 patch from the software update under the apple menu.

Lastly - this should probably be in the Apple Notebook forum - rumors and reports is for news about Apple.

Yes but the 500GB comes in 7200RPM and 5400RPM flavor. I believe the 5400RPM 500GB is the default - so if you didn't upgrade the hard drive you probably have a 5400RPM drive.

You can see it in Apple -> About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report -> under hardware -> serial-ata - it should show a dvd drive and your hard drive. My rotational speed says 7200 - so I have a 7200 RPM drive.

With the specs you have - anything running should be fast, if it seems to take a long time to save stuff, download stuff, start programs, boot, it is probably the hard drive.

You also may need to do some basic maintenance (i.e.: verify drive, repair permissions, etc.) as that may also be affecting performance (see the OSX software thread and the troubleshooting sticky)
