Upgrading HD on PowerBook G4

I have a Powerbook G4 and I have a 40GB HD in it and I am wanting to upgrade to a HD with a bit more room. I have programs installed on it that I no longer have the disks for. Is there a way for me to image them to the second or an external HD and image them back to the laptop once the new HD is installed?

There is a program that does it quite easily, can't remember the name, but here's a site that shows how to do it:

What I did, is buy an external 2.5in case to put my new HD in. Copied my original to it then swapped it with the internal. Worked perfect and gives you a nice 40gb external drive.

I bought an external that uses both Firewire and USB2. I used the Firewire interface. BTW, the program I mentioned before is "Carbon Copy Cloner" and I just noticed it's mentioned at the top of the link I pasted.
