I was looking for information on the compatibility of Norton Anti Virus and Mac OS X Lion .
Does anyone know if the whole spectrum of Norton is supported by Lion or are we still a long ways off. I want to install Lion but would like to know I am covered somewhat . :\

I have never used an AV on a Mac and unless things change for the worse never will.
I do however make sure my firewall is on in my router/modem.
I am careful as to what I give my password to when prompted.

:Cool:Up till now I felt the same but recently my email account was hacked. Possibly through my brand new Macbook Pro ,so I need an avenue to start and that will be this one .The hacks are only getting wiser and faster ....this one was in China....go figure. So I am getting prepared ,especially since Mac is, in the not to distant future ,going to surpass Microsoft in the quality and sales dept. Then the hacks will concentrate on Mac for sure...but anyway its just an opinion and as you know , everyones got one.Thx muchly for the reply

Anti-virus isn't going to keep your e-mail from being hacked. One doesn't have anything to do with the other

It wasn't hacked through your MBP unless you allowed that individual to sit down in front of your Mac and use it.

Your email would have been hacked by guessing/hacking your accounts password through the web due to you using too easy a password. It would not have had anything to do with your computer. An A/V would not have prevented it then and will not prevent it now.

Do not use Nortons period. If you feel you must use antivirus software, consider CLAMXav2 which is free.

Protection: rubber just won't cut it !

:Thx all for comments but I did say the whole spectrum of Norton as in security etc.... but I still believe we need some protection from the crap they are putting out and getting in with , and Apple can't stop it all .

There are some who say that Norton AntiVirus for Mac *is itself* a sort of virus.

Please read the the section on this site that is dedicated to the myth of needing an anti-virus, or "security software." You don't need these things at all, what you DO need is common sense (ie don't pirate software, don't install special "porn" viewing codecs, and beware that Nigerian prince etc).

As for your email account getting "hacked," others have told the tale but again -- simple passwords are easy to guess. Don't use simple passwords. Use something with a combination of letters and numbers.

For example, let's say my mail password was "poodlelover" (it isn't of course, but as an example).

That's a pretty weak password. If I changed it to p00d1e10v3r that's a way stronger password.

On the corporate side, we spoke to our Symantec representative this week and were told that the Symantec Endpoint Protection client and server will not be updated for Lion support until mid-October. If you need to use SEP11 in your corporate environment, you can upgrade a protected computer to Lion, but the installer won't run on a Lion computer, as it requires Rosetta. However, even an upgraded computer running the older version of SEP11 won't be supported by Symantec.

Remove the whole unfortunate pile of steaming entrails. It does not do what it says it does. Remove it.
