external hard drive and PS3

so first off im new to this forum. also im not too savvy with mac but im learning. but heres my question. i have an external hard drive that i would like to put movies on. i want to be able to take that hard drive and plug it into my PS3 and watch the movies. so how do i format the hard drive to work both with my mac and ps3? if there is even a way. please help. thanks.

I'm not sure which file format the PS3 needs. However, to start I would format the hard drive as FAT-32 to see if that will work. FAT-32 is compatible with your Mac for reading and writing. Make sure though when you format the hard drive with Disk Utility that you choose "MBR" and not "GUID".

As for the format of the hard drive, use MS-DOS (FAT). That will allow it to play nicely with your PS3 and Mac.
