Hi all,
Today my finder quit unexpectedly, and would not relaunch. I am running Lion, and after trying a few things (reboot, launch in safe mode, open another user, disk utility repaired permissions, etc) decided to restore my computer with Time Machine to a few days ago. Which did not work. What can I do to get my Finder back?

Thanks.

It appears to be a hardware error of some sort which is probably the reason why restoring from Time Machine didn't work.

Try running the Apple Hardware Test to see if it comes up with anything.

Do you have any other hardware attached to the machine? Printers, scanners, additional monitor, and so forth? If you do, remove them. Also, if you have a local network, remove the machine from the network temporarily.

If you have any applications that are starting up after the system boots, try removing them. Besides bad hardware, you could also have a corrupt plist file somewhere that's killing the Finder. Strange though that it even occurred when booting to Safe mode.

Think back and try to remember if you've recently installed any applications or extensions.

Oddly, I reinstalled the os and it's working just fine despite the fact that my earlier time machine backup had the same problem. Thanks for the help; I'm really glad it wasn't hardware/I didn't need a new computer!
