My boss wants me to put the mp3 file of his bi-monthly radio show on itunes store. He doesn't want to charge for it. Can I put it up as an mp3 file or do I need to do it as a podcast. Writing a xml file in html to create an RSS feed is out of my league so it would be great if I could just put it up as an mp3.

Thanks for the help.

It's lucky he doesn't want to charge for it, because you CAN'T charge for podcasts on the iTunes Store.

Luckily for you (if you're on a Mac), there's a very simple way to create a podcast: Garageband. Open the app, select Podcast, throw in a "master" piece of art (the title of the podcast for example), drag in the MP3 file into its own "track," make minor adjustments as warranted, export Podcast to Disk (from the "Share" menu).

This will result in an MP4 file. You post that on your website, then comes the only tricky bit: you need to make an RSS feed for that, which is what iTunes requires for syndication (there is a submission process for iTunes and Apple must approve the podcast, but once you're in you're in).

Here's more info on the subject: Apple - iTunes - Podcasts - Making a Podcast

I use iWeb to host my podcast, which takes care of all the XML/RSS junk for me so I never had to create one myself.

Thanks Chas m. Follow up question if you don't mind. I did just get a Mac for personal use last week. I am ver new to whole Mac scene. I looked at iWeb on the apple site it looks like it a feature in iLife which i think i might have. Do I have to pay for a website to do that or can i just have it host my podcast do my rss feed. Also, is there any cost.

Thanks again.

You might also want to take a look at this page on Apples support site. It tells you how to get started with the submission process that chas_m discussed.
