Copying table into MS Excel for Mac

Switched to Mac and MS Office. In the PC version copying tables from a browser and pasting into Excel is easy, but it doesn't seem to work well in Excel for Mac.

Here is a table I wanted to paste into Excel for Mac:
ATA Quarterly Cost Index: U.S. Passenger Airlines

It just didn't work so I had to use a PC.

Anybody able to enlighten me on how I can do it in the future on a Mac?

Except for the headers being slightly off, it seems to have worked fine for me. The trick I think is to ignore the framework, set your cursor just before the first character you want to copy and highlight down to the last character you want. Command-C to copy, open Excel, and Command-V to paste.

Agreed. I always do that when copying. Fewer things to fix that way.

I tried to do that but when pasted into Excel the data is simply pasted into 1 cell.

I am using Firefox 5.0.1 and Excel 12.3.0

Edit: Well it seems that Safari works but Firefox doesn't...I guess I could have tried that earlier

That's strange. Its seem to me that it would be more a function of Excel than the browser.

Firefox 6.0 is out. Does that run on your OS?

Just checked in Firefox 6.0 but still the same: all copied data is pasted into 1 cell in Excel.

Well, Firefox doesn't work for you. There are other browsers you could try besides Safari. Have a look at Chrome, Opera, Thunderbird...(oops!)

Just a slight correction on the above.... Thunderbird is not a browser. It's an email client and newsreader. (Published by the same folks who do Firefox.)

I just gave it a shot in Safari 5.1 on SL - and while obviously no formatting comes along - cmd-V worked just fine for me. Having said that - there are definitely things in the Mac version of Excel that don't quite work the same way or as well as the Windows version. Just have to work around them.
