stretching rectangle image to square

Hi
I have a rectangle image in both .pdf and .jpg that I need to make square for printing peel-off labels. How can I accomplish this using a Mac?

Mac Mini i5 (2014 High Sierra), iPhone X, Apple Watch, iPad Pro 12.9, AppleTV (4)
Preview (part of OSX) can crop and resize which should do the trick.
