Apple TV 2 and VLC streaming

I would like to buy a apple TV 2, but the thing is that i like to use VCL because its so ease to insert subtitles to any .avi video. The question is can i stream with video/sound (.avi) with a .srt subtitle from my mac to my TV via apple TV 2?
I know i can use Handbrake to play the movie via itunes but it takes forever to convert a movie.

From what i know i can't be done. There well could be a hack out there once/if you JB it but don't know that either.
You could well be interested in Download AirFlick for Mac - Serve files and URL MacUpdate.com. Its a awesome App and the developer is doing well in trying to improve it. It is still in a Beta stage but worth the dl.

Your best option is to jailbreak the ATV2 and use Plex.
