I have searched frantically for a solid answer on this topic but can't find anything. Basically I'm trying to burn a CD (not a DVD) at 1x on Toast for the best possible quality. For some stupid reason Toast forbids me to do this. I select 1x from the recorder option menu, but no matter what I choose as soon as I click ok and then go back to the recorder menu Toast has just ignored me and gone back to using the "Best" burn speed. So when I go ahead and burn the speed is too fast.

Any ideas please?

I don't know of any burning application either for OS X or Windows that will allow a burn speed of 1 X. The minimum for a DVD+RW is 2.5 X and the minimum for a DVD+R or DVD-R is 4 X. I don't know what speed Toast defaults to for best burn but you can always verify the disk after it's burned. As long as you're not burning double layer disks, the media is very inexpensive.

Just leave it at 'Best' and it will sort the burning out for you.
