Mac App Store and iTunes store not working after OS X 10.6.8 update

At first I thought that it was an internet problem, but my wi-fi is working just fine, and other people on the net are also having this problem (not being able to load iTunes store or App Store and getting the error message "The app store cannot be opened)

I tried the fix given here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3250810?start=0&tstart=0 but I don't have anything in the sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
file with apple.com on it, and so of course that didn't fix anything at all.

Did anyone else manage to find a fix for this?

Have you tried repairing permissions?

not sure if you had the same problem as i, but after i updated from 10.6.6 to 10.6.8, all apps seem to work except itunes, what i figured out was that a compatibility issue with the library.itl doc in the music folder, delete that file and relaunch, you will lose all your playlist though, but at least your up to date and working.
