do you have Adobe Flash plugin installed? If so, it should technically just play in the the browser window without downloading it..there are ways to avoid doing that and to actually download the FLV file if that is your intention..

my intention is to down load from the activity monitor and i was able to do this up until recently. I do have adobe flash player plugin as i have adobe master cs5 installed and updating it seems that the flash player is stopping the download process from taking place .I tried looking in the settings but cant seem to fix the only way i can now download youtube content is either by logging in as a guest or by opening with firefox and using their pluggin which is a hassle as the window/activity option is easier

Your terminology is messing with people's heads. "Activity Monitor" is an application found in your Utilities folder. It does not have the ability to download anything.

What you are referring to would be called the Safari Activity window. I do not download stuff from youtube, so I can't help with your issue.

Way... way too many specs to list.
I believe the ability to do so was removed recently. I don't recall which Safari release, but it was somewhat recent. I didn't use it often so...
