Does the iBook support sharing drives?
If so, could you use your MBP as an external DvD Drive?

EDIT: Although it seems you would have to already be running at least Tiger to do this.

If you pop the Tiger DVD in the drive of the iMac (or MBP) and reboot the computer into Target Mode (hold T at startup), you may be able to connect the iBook to the other computer, boot holding the Option key and select the Tiger DVD as the boot media. No guarantees there, but it's worth a shot. Basically you're using the newer computer as a dumb external DVD drive.

FireWire 400 or 800 between the two machines?

The iBook is going to have 400. The MBP or the iMac will most likely have 800. So a 400/800 cable, or six pin to nine pin cable would be required. We just ordered some FireWire cables from Monoprice today - they're running about $5.

I looked on amazon and they are around 8 dollars with shipping. I went to staples today and they tried to sell me the same cable for 49.99.
