Hi Fellow Mac lovers,

Why is the right side of my finder bar darker than the left?

I only noticed this change today and do not recall any blunt force trauma that could have damaged the screen to cause such a reaction.

I'm running a 13inch MacBook bought in the US mid 2006, originally running Tiger. I upgraded to Leopard but have not updated since. The rest of the bar looks normal but the right side (please refer to screen shot) is considerably darker than the right, and is uneven in the shading through out the ride side. This defect remains when switching between programs and was not solved by restarting.

I've tried to do my homework and find posts of with similar problems and suggestions for solutions, but haven't had a lot of luck.

Anyone have ideas about the cause/solution to my dilemma?

Let's try this: Take a screen shot of your desktop with the darker shading - Finder open or another app. Does the same thing show up on the screen shot? If it does, then it's graphics related. If the shading does not show up in the screen shot, it's a LCD defect. I suspect it's the LCD since your machine uses an Intel integrated GPU which is usually very stable.

Thanks for your suggestions. I did take a screenshot of the area in question on the screen and the same discoloration appears in the image file. Does this mean that defects with the physical screen are ruled out and thus the problem is internal?

That's what I'm thinking. It looks like the OP is seeing the desktop show through and it happens that the upper-right side is a darker grey or whatever color.

1st off: that top bar, the one that goes all the way across the top of your screen... it's not called the Finder bar. That's the Menu bar.

What you're seeing is the picture on your desktop through the semi-transparent Menu bar.

That thing down at the bottom of your screen with all the icons on it of your applications, that's called the Dock.

And this is the Finder:

Uncheck the box.
