I've gotten apps like Mail and Preview to go into Full Screen mode, but how do I go about putting Garageband and iPhoto into Full Screen mode? There is no arrow in the top right corner of the window to do so, and it says on Apple's site under the description of Full Screen apps that these two apps can do this.

That tells me you have some previous version of iLife. They're not going to be full screen capable. Want full screen, you're going to have to upgrade to iLife '11.
