when i press the power button, my macbook starts as usual. the screen turns white, the apple logo is shown and the "spinning loading circle" is spinning as usual, but it never stops. i have tried to start it while plugged in, and without. i have removed the battery and put it back but nothing will work. i'm kind of a noob when it comes to computers so i can use all the tips and help i can get.
thanks guys!

I would do a disk verify and repair before replacing the HD, you will need snow leopard DVD that came with your Mac or any Mac os x DVD really, select disk utility program in the top menu bar, everything else is self explanatory.
