Hi,

So I've had a MacBook for a few years now, but only today noticed something odd. It is a 2007 year end model, and the specs clearly say "two USB 2.0 ports". When I look at the System Profiler, the speeds show up as "up to 12 MB/sec". Here are the two devices I've plugged in:

UA-25EX:

Product ID: 0x00e6
Vendor ID: 0x0582 (Roland Corporation)
Version: 1.01
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Roland
Location ID: 0x1d100000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 480

USB Uno MIDI Interface:

Product ID: 0x0150
Vendor ID: 0x0763 (M-Audio)
Version: 0.14
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: M-Audio
Location ID: 0x1a200000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 0

It is very likely that both these devices, although new, are only USB 1.1. How can I tell if my ports are USB 2.0 for sure? Is there a way to tell when no devices are hooked up to the USB ports?

Thanks!

You're showing the status of the devices plugged in. What's it say for the hub (under USB Highspeed bus)?

As such.

Hub:

Product ID: 0x2513
Vendor ID: 0x0424 (SMSC)
Version: b.b3
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Location ID: 0xfa100000 / 2
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 2

Hi Dysfunction,

I was not using a hub. I just plugged those devices into the two USB ports separately, so they showed up under "USB Bus". However, your reply got me thinking and I plugged in a Belkin USB 2.0 Hub into one of the ports. Then, I connected those same two devices, and I think I got my answer. Here's what I see under "USB High Speed Bus":

USB2.0 Hub:

Product ID: 0x0608
Vendor ID: 0x05e3 (Genesys Logic, Inc.)
Version: 7.02
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Location ID: 0xfd100000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 100

UA-25EX:

Product ID: 0x00e6
Vendor ID: 0x0582 (Roland Corporation)
Version: 1.01
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Roland
Location ID: 0xfd120000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 480

USB Uno MIDI Interface:

Product ID: 0x0150
Vendor ID: 0x0763 (M-Audio)
Version: 0.14
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: M-Audio
Location ID: 0xfd110000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 0

So I guess the answer is that the ports are indeed USB 2.0 (at 480 MB/sec), but those devices are only USB 1.1. Is that right?

Thanks for the tip!

Yep, that's what the output's indicating! :)

You'll notice that keyboards and bluetooth are 12 Mb/s.. IR's like 1.5 Mb/s or something.
