I need to know the max height for an internal drive for a MBP 17" 4,1 as I want to put in a drive in that is 14.8mm high. The current WD 1TB drive fit just fine and it is 12.7mm and seemed to have room to spare. How to figure out without taking the computer apart and trying to measure the space OR without purchasing the drive only to find out that it will not fit?

Nope...that won't fit. The drives in MacBook Pro's are usually 9.5mm...sometimes you can squeeze a 12.5mm drive in...but I would have to say no way to a 14.8mm height drive in a MacBook Pro.

WD Scorpio Blue is also supposed to provide 1TB in a 9.5mm drive. Samsung was reportedly working on one as well, but haven't seen it available yet.
