Outgoing Connections?

I've been wondering this since I moved from PC to Mac. Is there a utility (other than Little Snitch which I don't know if it does anyway) that allows me to monitor certain outgoing connections to the internet AND local network? That is to say I want certain applications to access LAN ONLY and not the Internet. I know Zone Alarm used to do that on PC but not sure about Mac.

Thanks for any advice.

If you just want to block certain applications from calling out or restrict what applications a user can use to access the internet

I just want an application to communicate with other clients on LAN and not constantly check for updates on the internet which significantly slows the app down.

No Mac apps "constantly check for updates on the internet which significantly slows the app down," so this is not really a valid concern.
