Since Lion is now owned at the AppleID level can you legally sell a mac with an upgraded version of Lion installed that you purchased on your Apple account?

I would have to say NO.

Wanted to get your thoughts on this.

- If you purchased Lion from the MAS, then that copy of Lion follows your Apple ID, not the machine.

- If you purchased a new machine pre-installed with Lion, that copy of Lion follows the machine, not your Apple ID.

But how do you send the Original install media if it was an upgrade from the MAS and yes I know you can create a DVD but i believe the DVD downloads it from MAS when installed from scratch.

Look at what I posted. What I posted comes directly from Apple and the license agreements.

I agree. I was responding to OSXX

My neighbor wants a faster MBP asked the Apple Store if she could sell the
Mac that she just upgraded answer was yes as she is getting a new one with
Lion already installed that is what I meant by computer +OS.

The store is wrong. She technically can't give the Lion upgrade install since it's only licensed to her Apple ID.

Schweb's right. If your neighbor's Mac did not ship with Lion the key words her are theta she can use Lion on machines she own/has control over. Once she sells/gives away the original Mac neither of these conditions are true.

Amazing how much confusion there seems to be about the Lion license. Schweb's dead right again.

Promised myself I was going to stop saying that. jk

OK that was weird. First one post wasn't there so I made the second one. Now they are both here.

Yep, this new licensing scheme is a little confusing. Although I'm going to be honest that I really don't think Apple truly cares one way or the other. Obviously if the OS only costs $29 it's not like they're looking at it for revenue generation. :)
