Two questions actually
1. I am contemplating buying a 13" MBA and wondering if it will drive a 30" monitor at 2560x1600 and be usable at that resolution

I have an older Mac mini, with the dual link DVI cable the highest USABLE resolution is 1600x1200. At 2650x1600 the fonts are hazy. In creasing/changing the system font doesn't help.

2. Is the MBA 64 bit, and is it possible to get 8GB of ram in it ?

Not a must have, just would be nice

Max memory for MBA is 4GB and you cannot upgrade memory in Macbook Air as they are soldered to the motherboard. Yes, the 2011 Macbook Air is 64 bit.

Cant answer #1 question - sorry.

Your Mac's Specs
15" MBP '06 2.33 C2D 4GB 10.7; 13" MBA '14 1.8 i7 8GB 10.11; 21" iMac '13 2.9 i5 8GB 10.11; 6S
And no, the max amount of memory Apple puts in the Air is 4GB.

I'd test my MBA for you, but I don't have a monitor like that.
