Macbook Pro 15" i5. 4GB, 2.4Ghz, 320GB. Mid 2010
Hi, I just got my very first macbook Pro 15" i5.
Can anybody tell me what I'm supposed to do. I have lion on it.

I also bought a keyboard cover, in case of dirt, grease, oil, dust, or drinks spill on my laptop in the future. That's all I know.

The keyboard is so cool it's backlit.
I'm a college student now, first year.

What should I do? Any word processing programs for free out there?
Or what? :D Help me out everyone

Read the essay linked to in my signature.

Get a riser for your beautiful new machine, and keep drinks (and drunks) the heck away from it.

TextEdit is already included on the machine, it's a basic (very basic, but quite functional) word processor.

As it says in the essay, learn your Mac software first, then go hunting for stuff that isn't already provided for.

Not a stupid question. Not a drama major, I take it ... :)

What I meant by a riser is an elevated stand, something like this:

This serves two functions: first, should a drink be spilled on your desk, you probably have time to move the notebook out of the way before disaster strikes (I still suggest drinks should always be kept at least six feet away, however).

Second, the circulating air underneath the MBP helps it dissipate heat even better when under load.

Check out Neo office. I have not had any problems with it being compatible with Word and Excel.

Already suggested is NeoOffice. There is also LibreOffice and OpenOffice. All are full suites of applications, however. If you're looking for just a simple WP program that's free, I suggest giving Bean a try. For a full featured WP and publishing layout program, you can't beat the price of Pages. $19.99 at the App store.

I like the looks of that! Can it be found in the Apple Store?
