Hello everyone, this is just a thread to gather some information on people's preference on how they run windows on a mac, would appreciate it if you reply with some personal experience

1. bootcamp only
2. virtual machine only
3. both, use vm most of the time, but boot up windows while handling data/graphics intensive software

Just VM, Fusion. I don't use Windows enough that it matters. Only need IE every few months.

Boot Camp only. Need full processor/RAM for a Windows only architecture program.

Many of use both methods; VM software and Boot Camp. Both Parallels and Fusion will virtualize a Boot Camp partition without having to reinstall Windows.

I have XP in Fusion and Win 7 via both. I open Windows on my Mac perhaps a half dozen times a year. Have a new Mac coming and have no plans to put Windows on it at all. That'll save me about 50GB.

VirtualBox VM only (Ubuntu as well in a VM). Only need windows occasionally; used to use it for online poker, but alas, no more ... and didn't need full graphics for that. You should consider posting this as a poll -- would be simpler.

Cheers

I have a question if you don't mind? It seems that there are a lot more Boot Camp installations out in the market versus Parallels or VM Fusion ware. Why is this? I use Parallels and have found it to be very trouble free and easy to live with.

I see lots and lots of Boot Camp threads where it does not work or Mac or Windows is deleted etc etc. Quite a few more than the virtual software installations. Is it more difficult to manage or is this true for some other reason. (Maybe it's not true and it's just my perception.)

Most folks install Windows via Boot Camp in order to get maximum power and usage from the graphics processor. In other words, games. Fusion, Parallels, VirtualBox, are great for running most Windows programs but games and anything graphic intensive requires a BC installation.
