How to test cd drive?

Hi is there a software i could use to test my cd drive? I'm new in Macs and I think my cd drive doesn't work properly. How can i test it?? Thanks.

Pop in your system install disc and see if it loads. Of course you do have the install disc of your operating system? If it reads try booting from the disc buy restarting and holdin g down 'C 'after the chime.

I tried that already, it spins and rejects disc. Is there a professional software like thechTool or drive Genius to test cd drive? Is there anything i can to fix it like cleaning it or something?? ThAnks

The only real viable way to try cleaning the drive is buy a can of compressed air and blow a few blasts into the drive. It's possible the lens may be dirty, however, if the problem is mechanical or electronic, the entire drive will have to be replaced.
