Unable to download larger apps

I have a two week old MBP running the latest version of Snow Leopard.
I am unable to download larger apps, I just get 'waiting' next to the icon on the dashboard. I use a BT home hub 2.0 if that is relevant.
With Lion now out I'm keen to use it so any help would be very welcome.
