since downloading lion my iTunes opens on start up, even though this is not selected on iTunes preferences, if I uncheck the windows box on shut down this stops it happening, is it possible to not have to uncheck the box every time?

Something may be opening iTunes on startup. For instance, I know Tracks opens iTunes whenever it is opened and I had it set to open at startup. Do you have any apps that interact with/depend on iTunes? If so, check their settings if they open at boot.

Also, applications still running when Lion shuts down or reboots are relaunched on startup by default. The idea is to bring you back to the state you had before the reboot.
