• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I need some help making DVD's that will play in a DVD player, not just in quicktime or itunes. I have a video_TS folder with the .vob files (and some other, different files) and I have handbrake, burn and flv crunch. I tried handbrake, and so got a .m4v file which works in itunes, but not in my dvd player. What do I need to do to get a workable DVD? Thanks.

What are these video files and what format are they in?

If you have an .m4v file, you can use something like Roxio's Toast ($79?) or Burn (free) to make a proper DVD out of it. Toast obviously does a lot more than Burn, but for that kind of job Burn may be all you need.

They're some movie files that my sister backed up a couple years ago and now can't find the dvds for. They're .vob , .bup , and .ifo files. Ok thanks, I think that I have a program that can turn them into an .m4v file, I'll try that out.

Have you tried just burning the Video_TS file to dvd. I think that might work.
