Hi all. I'm new here so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I have an external hard drive that i made into my time machine for my macbook pro. I was wondering if it would be possible to still use it as a normal external hard drive without using the time machine feature?

Partition it with Disk Utility. Use one partition for the Time Machine backups, the other as you like.
