I need to purchase a 1 gb stick of ram to upgrade my 1.2 ghz ibook... everything tells me that pc2100 is what it takes, but i was wondering if pc2700 would work in the machine... have been told that the thing i need to watch out for is overheating... anyone have any experience with this or know whether or not this works?

pc2700 will work but it will only go at pc2100 speed so there is no point in getting 2700

i'm buying it through work, and am limited by stock on hand... the only thing we have that's reasonable is pc3200... and i'm assuming that pc3200 would run much too hot... how much advantage would there be in getting 1 gb vs. 512?

so i'm gathering that nothing is better than crucial?
Not really. That was just an example. Just be sure that you get a PC2100 DDR 200-Pin SODIMM stick and you will be fine. I would reccomend at least a 512MB stick, and the 1GB is the max you can put in.

Nope. The memory will only run at the maximum speed that the logic board is capable of handling. If it was trying to run at 3200 then yes it would probably be too hot but it can only go at 2100
