the spotlight icon is at the far right of the icons at the top right of the screen. sometimes when i go to use it, i accidentally hit the hotcorner, which is kind of a pain. is there any way to slide that icon to the left of the other icons on the menu bar? thanks

You can't move it without third party help. And even at that, as soon as an update is published for the version of OS X you're running, the Spotlight icon will return to its normal spot. Currently, you can remove it with the free version of OnyX. The best suggestion is to change your hot corners to the bottom of the screen.

Just use the keyboard command. it's a lot faster

Command + spacebar. Command is the button to the left, the little circle cross square thingy.
