iphone unlock

Hi.

I have a iphone 3g 4.2.1 bandwidth: 05.15.04. I want to unlock it to use a t-mobile sim. currently it has no sim. I have tried to jailbreak with greenpois0n but it just doesn't go into dfu mode, no matter what I try. I'm stuck. Do i have to jailbreak before unlock. What can I do????

AFIK, you can have it carrier unlocked at the dealer you bought it. (The going rate for this is around 50 bucks)
Other than that, your only other option is to JB it.
