My MPB with 4 GB of RAM and a 3.06 Ghz Intel chip computer often slows when I use Final Cut Pro. I'm guessing an easy solution would be to move up to 8 GB of RAM. How would I check that more RAM would be useful and that it doesnt get slow for some other reason?

4GB should be ample. Are you experiencing beach ball delays running any applications? The only answer to more memory being useful is to spend your bucks and see how it goes. Will not be any slower for sure.
