So, I'm trying to create a catalog of my music books similar to one a friend of mine did with his. The problem is, his is in Excel and I don't know how to create the same grouping system as he has.

His looks like this:

-Piano
-Billy Joel Piano Solos | Billy Joel | Piano |
-All About Soul | Pg. 8 | F Major|
-Allentown | Pg. 4 |G Major |

I know how to get the "Piano" heading to cover over all the book titles, but I can't figure out how to turn each book title into a category heading for the songs that are in that book. If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated!! I'm using Numbers '09 version 2.0.3 (332)

The easy way would be to obtain a copy of your friend's Excel worksheet and open it in Numbers. Then make the changes to it that you need.
