I'm sure there are threads around about connecting MBP's to LCD tv's but I am having an odd issue and can't find an answer anywhere.

I have a sony bravia lcd tv with 4 HDMI ports. I have a dvi-->HDMI setup going from my MBP to my tv. The picture works great. When I plugin the auxiliary cable from my headphone jack to my tv the sound does not work.

If I unplug the HDMI, then the sound plays. When I plug the HDMI back in, the video shows up and sound cuts off.

Sony support says that the TV thinks there is a sound feed through the HDMI so it is ignoring the auxillary sound input. This is backwards logic. It should check the auxillary port first as there is no reason for us to plug something in that port if it wasn't wanted.

No others TV's have this problem.

It is my understanding that the model of MBP I have is a few months short of when the MBP's started doing sound through HDMI.

What can I do to get sound and picture from my mbp to my sony tv without having to buy either a new tv or new mbp.

thanks
