HELP ME! .app

Hello!
I have a mac OS X Version 10.5.7

Around one week ago i dont know what happend but after a file / application it got .*filetype*
Like... Skype.app , -Picture-.jpg ...
i hope you understand my problem
i just want it to me ''Skype'' not skype.app or Safari.app just Safari!
Please help me...

Go to:
Finder > Preferences > Advanced

Uncheck "Show all filename extensions"

Hmmm. Try deleting:
yourhomefolder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

This will reset your Finder preferences to the defaults.

I had to restart my Mac then it worked!

Odd. That shouldn't have been necessary. *shrug* Well at least yer back in business.
