I've been doing this on my windows pc for a while now but have just picked up a macbook pro and wondering if there is a better way to do this.

Currently I take audio (speech mostly) recorded on a CD - rip it with audacity - join (if split) with audacity - export to mp3 via the lame plugin as 48kbps quality and upload to our website.

Is there a better, easier, more obvious way to do this on a Mac?

Theres so many ways to do it that involve the same method, just stick to what you were doing.

grab the LAME program for the Mac.

It should be possible to do this via Automator. This is the kind of repetitive task it was designed to handle. I experimented with it yesterday a bit but have not been able to find an action that joins the files.
