Store DVDs on hard drive to watch on ATV

Help please. I have a huge collection of DVDs both normal and bluray. My dream its to upload all of these via my iMac store them onto a hard drive (external) then be able to locate them through ATV to watch.

Anyone know if this is possible if so love to know
