imovie '11 and camcorder

I plan to buy a Kodak Zi8 pocket camcorder and download the video to iMovie '11. My question is : If I do this through a converter will I lose any video quality? Which converter will work best?

You shouldn't need any converter...iMovie 11 will automatically convert to AIC for editing in iMovie 11. I have a Kodak Playsport...my files need no converting.

I just take the card out...put it in the reader...open up iMovie and import files from there.
