Bootcamp/Win 7: black screen after reboot

I have a known problem of certain iMacs, black screen after installation reboot, which is because Win does not support certain Mac displays.

There is nothing wrong with the installation other than running thru Bootcamp. When I run VMware Fusion which uses the same partition, Win works allright. I just can't install the drivers needed. Under VMWF it seems to use Mac drivers and shows no option to install, and run thru BC in safe mode Win does not allow installing.

Have you solved this, anyone?

Thank you very much indeed chscag, the instructions worked perfectly. Win 7 works now on its own.

It is worth noting, however, that I didn't have permission to remove that file from OSX and could not change the permissions. The solution was simple: I started Win 7 from VMWare Fusion and then removed the system file.

Glad your sorted.

For reference if someone finds this thread in the future and doesn't have a way to delete the file.....

Here's another way to fix the black screen issue.
