Thinking of getting a new laptop for work and seriously considering a MBA. Need to run basic Office stuff (Word, Excel, Power Point). Most of the heavy computing is done on a remote PC via VPN and remote connection. Thinking a MBA with 8GB of ram should be more than sufficient.

Anyone disagree?

The MacBook Air should be sufficient for what you need to use it for. Note, however, the maximum memory an Air can take is 4 GB and you must order it that way from Apple. You can not upgrade the memory yourself as it is soldered on the Logic Board.

Also, order the largest hard drive (SSD Flash drive) that you can afford. That can be upgraded later on, but it's an expensive upgrade.

Well what you should do is wait around a bit; there are numerous shortages of the Current MBA (Best Buy, Amazon, etc.) indicating a refresh is coming. People have been talking about this for a long time now. They should come with Sandy Bridge processors and ThunderBolt ports as well. I'm thinking about selling my current MB and getting a new air when those come out.

But yea, if you were to get a current generation one, it would be able to do everything you want from it.

8GB of RAM is overkill for Office.

Doesn't really matter because the current MBA models will only take a maximum of 4 GB. But you're right, I was running Office at one time with only 2 GB of memory.
