DVD Player problem

I have a Macbook and until the last two times I have tried to use it, the DVD player worked well. Now when I try to play a DVD, it says it is skipping bad areas. However, the DVD plays OK at home on my DVD player.

Any suggestions? Can I clean it, or do I need to replace it?
