iPhone 3gs unresponsive screen (please help)

Hey I have an iPhone 3gs and my touch screen just went out and i can turn it on and everything else is fine. Can someone tell me what to do do I need to find someone to replace the digitizer or can someone give me some tips and tricks on how to fix it. Thanks please respond quickly! and sorry i'm new basically when i touch the screen it doesnt do anything like i cant power off i can only hold home button and power button to turn off.

You're right it sounds like the digitizer.
