Hi,

I have a hard drive that is shared on my home network. I can only listen to music over the network.
When I play music from this network, the song will add automatically to the folder "Music" in iTunes with the result that when I'm on the move, I can't play these songs anymore.

The purpose of this question is to find out how I can ensure that my iTunes music folder stays clean. Is there maybe a way to disable this "auto-add" function to the library?

I am not sure but I if I understand your question correctly I may have a solution. Launch iTunes and go to the "Advanced" pane. Uncheck the option to copy files to the iTunes media folder.
