Make finder locate network computers?

I have an intermittent problem with Finder locating network computers.

On the left side of finder are all the computers on the network in the Shared area.

I travel between work, home and school almost daily. My MacBook Pro is almost never restarted.
About once a week, I have a problem where when waking from sleep, finder does not populate the Shared area in finder. Sometimes I can turn wireless off and back on, then it will detect what's on the network, but sometimes I have to reboot to get them to detect.
I have tried going to the network area under devices and that also does not work.

Is there a way I can force it to re-search across the network?

Is there a reason you need to refresh the list?

If you need to connect to particular computers based on your location, perhaps creating an Automator action to connect you to those resources versus refreshing the list of resources might be a better approach.
