Rumor: Apple may team up with TV maker for Apple TV sets

A new rumor has resurfaced the frequent claim that Apple would have a self-branded TV set. A supposed Apple executive claimed the Apple TV hardware would be integrated into TV sets built by a "major supplier" but badged with Apple's logo. What DailyTech was told about would be planned for a fall launch but could wait until 2012 if the product wasn't ready....

I see this would work for Apple. As I see it now, no one flocks over to a Google TV.

An observation posted by others, with which I agree, is that televisions are low margin products with loooooooong refresh rates, neither of which would really appeal to Apple. Add to that the idea that people will probably want to connect it to outside services with substandard UIs (like AT&T UVERSE's DVR), and I just can't see Apple thinking this is a good space to play in. Rather, I believe they'll continue with the existing console model, which they have more control over and can sell cheaper (read: more volume) than a full set.

Just my 2 cents.
