Yes, it's true... My MacBook is dead. The power button does nothing at all and yes I tried resetting it by removing the battery and power cord and holding the power button for ten seconds. My question is: if I just get myself a used MacBook on EBay can I swap drives without an issue? I have some important stuff on it that didn't get backed up. Thanks!

You can also remove the hard drive from the dead MacBook and place it in a USB external carrier and copy the data from it. Just attach the carrier with the drive in it to your new MacBook.
