• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

What is better than iMovie for editing video?

iMovie takes hours to import the files. It is so annoying having to wait 4 hours to import 8 files.

Is there a program out there that will import files quickly?

Thanks.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
Have you tried deselecting optimize when you have selected import?.... this seems to be what slows things down.

Yes, this is without optimize videos checked. If I had that checked it would take 2 days.

Even though I have "optimize video" unchecked, it takes "generating thumbnails" like 45 minutes per video.

What version of iMovie are you using? I've noticed iMovie 11 has this problem of insanely long imports. I downgraded iMovie to 09 and it no longer takes hours to import a couple of videos, just a few minutes. Apple seriously needs to fix this problem with iMovie 11.

Ok, I would be interested in doing this.

Do I need to go buy it? Or is iMovie 9 a free download?
