using external sound card with ableton live software and Mac pro

Hi

I am running Ableton live 8 on my Mac book pro and have purchased an external sound card. Focusrite safire 6 USB.

I can't get them to interface properly. When I am playing my music on ableton it is very low volume?

Any help appreciated
