I partioned my 750gb drive to 500 for mac, and I was going to setup 250 for windoh's. Now, in boot camp it only sees my 500 gb partition. can I get the other 250 back in the system for bootcamp? or do I have to format and not partition at the beginning.

When you go to make the new partition check the Bootcamp directions. It has been a while since I read them but I think they suggest letting the BootCamp Assistant set up the Windows partition. If you have already done that ignore this post.

I'm not sure what it is you've done, but try running the Boot Camp assistant once more. This time when you select "create partition", also select "restore". That should get your 250 GB back. Only use Disk Utility as a last resort if the BC assistant doesn't work.

Does Boot Camp require the partition to be on the main drive? Once Thunderbolt arrives, I was thinking of making a BootCamp partition on an external drive.

Boot Camp will not create a partition on an external drive.
