Hi guys,

A computer guy who is going to change my HD on my MacBook to increase size said I need to deauthorise my MacBook iTunes first, is this correct and will it effect my iTunes downloads when its cloned over to the new hard drive?

yeah you should de authorise before swapping.

If you clone the drive you don't have to.

Thanks. I was told that even though I use time machine, once I plug it into the laptop with the new hard drive, it will automatically wipe and do a fresh install.

Timer machine does pretty much clone the drive. You can also use a program called carbon copy cloner and that you clone your hard drive for you.

Time Machine doesnt clone the drive, it "puts back" all your data as to how it was when you left it - you still have to reinstall OSX.

Cloning your drive is an exact physical copy, everything is exactly the same.

As for the De-Authorizing and then Authorizing, it takes 30 seconds. Better safe, than lose a precious Authorization license. You only get 5 and can reset only once a year.

Am I mistake or does DRM authorization through iTunes go away when iCloud comes out? Seems to me it would have to.

It really sucks you get 5 licences. I mean, I had 3 windows PC's before with iTunes, then 2 ipods and now this machine which means even though I have over 40 movies bought and paid for and over 5,000's I bought in iTunes, it means they never work again after installed on a 5th machine... It's just not good at all really...

iPods/iPhones/iPads dont count towards the 5 Licenses, only Computers with iTunes installed.

you are getting way too stressed...

and you can deauthorise old computers at any point and get your license back.

Thanks looks like CCC is the ticket.

I want to stick a fancy 500G drive with the flashy RAM in. The old 120G drive is about full.
